Ophthalmology Pharmacy FAQ
Common questions from ophthalmology providers and patients about working with Summit Pharmacy.
Can you coordinate post-op drop kits for cataract surgery patients?
Yes. We work with ophthalmology practices to ensure patients receive their post-operative steroid, antibiotic, and NSAID drops before their procedure. We can also provide clear dosing schedules and patient counseling to improve adherence.
Do you carry preservative-free eye drops?
Yes. We stock preservative-free formulations for patients with sensitivities, including PF versions of common glaucoma medications, artificial tears, and post-op drops. If you need a specific PF product, contact us and we'll confirm availability.
How do you help with prior authorizations for brand eye drops?
When a brand medication like Xiidra, Cequa, or Rhopressa requires authorization, our team initiates the PA process and faxes the PA key to your office so you can complete it. We keep your office updated throughout and will suggest alternatives based on your saved preferences if approval seems unlikely.
What's your delivery timeframe for the Denver metro area?
Denver metro patients typically receive their medications within 1 business day via local courier. For time-sensitive post-op prescriptions, we prioritize same-day processing for orders received before 2:00 PM MST.
Do you provide patient counseling on eye drop administration?
Absolutely. Proper drop administration is critical for treatment success. Our pharmacists provide clear, step-by-step instructions on technique, timing between different drops, and proper storage to help patients get the most from their therapy.
Can you help if a glaucoma medication is on backorder?
Yes. We proactively monitor supply issues and stock alternatives for commonly backordered medications. If your patient's prescribed drop is unavailable, we'll contact you immediately with therapeutic alternatives to prevent treatment gaps.
Do you accept manufacturer copay cards for brand eye medications?
Yes. We apply manufacturer copay assistance programs for eligible patients to reduce out-of-pocket costs on brand medications like Vuity, Miebo, Tyrvaya, and others. Our team stays current on available programs.
How can I send prescriptions to Summit Pharmacy?
Providers can send prescriptions via e-prescribe (EMR 0626039), fax to (720) 370-1216, or by calling (720) 370-1121 to speak with one of our pharmacists. For faxed orders, please include the diagnosis code so we can initiate PAs immediately if needed.
